Ann has been involved in a very exciting project that is set to be unveiled at Dragonfire Gallery in Cannon Beach, Oregon, during the Plein Air and More Festival coming up on June 28th-30th, 2013.
This project is a collaboration between four artists–Ann in fused glass, Michael Orwick in oil paint, Arnie Chupp in metal, and Deb Steele in jewelry. But it’s not what you might think of when you hear artists’ collaboration. Rather than the artists working together to create a single project using all of their talents, each artist chose an inspiration piece and created a piece of art in their own medium to inspire the other artists on the project. Each artist then creates their own interpretation of each inspiration in turn, resulting in four visions of the same inspiration, created in very diverse mediums.
For example, here is a preview of a piece painter Michael Orwick created in oil, surrounded by sneak peeks of the pieces created in fused glass, metal, and jewelry:
Ann worked on her fused glass interpretation with the photo that inspired Michael Orwick’s piece in front of her–here’s how it looked in progress.
For Ann’s inspiration piece, she began with a woodcarving created by her mother. She made a casting of the piece and started to play with the various ways she could recreate and reinterpret the carving in glass. Using differing thicknesses, colors and shading, and even different fusing techniques, Ann created an entire collection inspired by the beautiful wood inspiration. Take a look at some snippets below to get an idea of the amazing variety she achieved! You’ll have to visit Dragonfire once the pieces are unveiled to see them in their entirety.
This collaboration is truly artistic history being made. It is worth the trip to the coast to take a look at what can be created when artists push the boundaries of inspiration and creative input.
